Update vCenter Appliance to 6.0.0 U2

The list of my articles with “Update vCenter Appliance” is growing :)

This article explains the update to version 6.0.0 U2 (6.0.0.20000) of the VMware vCenter Server Appliance.

In my older articles I described the updates for earlier versions

  • http://blog.ganser.com/975 Update from the first version of vCenter Server Appliance 6 to the 6.0.0 U1.
The update needs to connect an ISO image and CLI commands to be installed.
  • http://blog.ganser.com/1165 Update from version 6.0.0 U1 to 6.0.0 U1b.
In this update was an error where the installation stucks at 70%, but in fact the update was complete. Only a manual reboot was necessary.

I prefer the update via Webinterface, but do also watch the progress with the console.

On January 22nd VMware Release Notes added a hint, what to do if the installer stuck at 70%. Read more at the end of my install steps.

VMware released a KB article (KB2109770) which fixes a problem where Adobe Flash reports “storage limit reached

Install vSphere Update Manager in addition to vCenter Server Appliance

After I’ve installed the vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) a few weeks ago the testing process is over and I’ve migrated our production vCenter to the new vCSA 6.0.0b. To be able to update and patch our ESXi hosts I want to install the vSphere Update Manager (vUM). Because there is no option to install the vUM on vCSA directly, you need a Windows host for installation.

Update vCSA 6.0.0 to vCSA 6.0.0b

Two days ago VMware released the second version of vCenter Server 6.0.0.
After four month the update delivers some bugfixes for SSO, security, storage, installation and upgrade. The full list of fixes can be found in the Release Notes for vCenter 6.0.0b.

In my last “upgrade” article I discribe how to upgrade from vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) 5.5.0 to vCSA 6.0.0

The update could be installed via CMD and mounted ISO in the vCSA.
